It's a shopping list that pays attention to where you are, and tells you when you're standing next to a store that sells something you've been forgetting.

That's genuinely it. Everything else in the app exists to make that one moment work properly.

No — and this got a genuinely obsessive amount of attention, because the obvious way to build this app would destroy your battery.

Roaminder doesn't sit there watching your GPS all day. When you're parked somewhere, it uses essentially nothing: it just leaves a marker with the operating system and goes to sleep. It only wakes up and checks properly once you've actually gone somewhere. Sitting at home or at your desk costs you nothing.

No. You don't need an account, so by default there's nobody to build a profile of. The matching — working out whether a store near you has your stuff — happens on your phone, not on a server.

When the app does need to ask what stores exist in an area, that request isn't logged, isn't stored, and isn't attached to a name. No location history is kept anywhere. Nothing is sold to anybody. Ever.

There is an optional account, purely so your settings can be backed up and so you can share a list with other people. It holds an email address, a first name and a last initial, and nothing else. Your location is never part of it.

Nothing. It's free to use, supported by a small ad banner. There's no subscription, no paywalled features, and no "premium" tier holding the useful bits hostage.

Not yet. Roaminder is Android first, because that's the phone in the pocket of the person building it. An iOS version is wanted, but it isn't promised, and it isn't close. Honest answer beats a fake roadmap.

Soon-ish. It's a working app being tested in the real world right now, and it's heading for the Play Store. This website currently exists so it can be shown to friends without having to describe it out loud with hand gestures.

Tap the + in the middle of the bottom bar from any screen. Start typing and it autocompletes as you go. You can also tap a Quick Add pill on the home screen to drop a common item in instantly, with no typing at all.

At the checkout, open your active list and tap Smart Complete. Take a photo of your cart, basket or receipt — Roaminder reads it and ticks off everything on your list it recognizes, so you're not tapping items off one at a time while holding your wallet in your teeth.

The same trick, pointed the other way. When you're adding an item, tap Smart Add and photograph a handwritten list, a single product, or a whole basket. Roaminder reads it and adds everything at once — much faster than typing out a list you already wrote down.

Yes. Tap My Custom Lists at the top right of the Items screen and save a reusable list — the weekly store, the camping kit, whatever. After that, one tap fires every item from it onto your active list.

It tells Roaminder that you only want a particular item from a particular place. Tap the ⋮ on any item, choose Store Preference and pick the store. From then on that item only matches and alerts at that brand. You also get asked the first time you add an item.

For things you rebuy on a schedule. Tap the ⋮ on an item, choose Automatic Reminders and pick a cadence — weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly or custom. The item comes back on its own when it's due.

The 🎱 tab. Answer a couple of quick questions about your mood or the occasion — or just type an idea — and it invents a personalised outing or evening for you, shopping list included. Tap Generate Experiences to see the cards.

It is completely unnecessary and a very good time.

Not if you use Exclusion Zones. On the Map screen, draw a zone over your home or workplace and Roaminder goes completely silent while you're inside it — while still alerting you normally everywhere else. It's the fix for anywhere you pass every single day without ever intending to stop.

Settings → Excluded Stores, and add it. It's removed from all your results and will never trigger an alert again. Ideal for a chain you simply never store at.

No. Once an item has pinged you it stays quiet for several hours. Driving past the same supermarket four times in an afternoon gets you told once.

Alerts also wait until you've genuinely stopped somewhere, rather than firing as you clip the corner of a parking lot at speed.

Because the entire point is that it works while the app is closed. "Only while using the app" would mean you'd have to open Roaminder every time you arrived somewhere — which is exactly the remembering it's supposed to save you from.

You can decline. The list still works perfectly as a list; you just don't get the nudges.

Your list is stored on your phone, so it's always there. Nearby stores are cached, so proximity alerts usually keep working in a signal dead-spot too. The camera features need a connection, since that's where the clever reading-your-handwriting part happens.

It'll happen occasionally. Roaminder matches by the kind of store and what that kind of store typically stocks — it isn't reading live shelf inventory, and no app honestly can. Treat it as a very well-informed nudge, not a guarantee.

There's a report button in the app for when a match is plainly wrong, and those reports are what make the matching better.
